Consumers and reviewers were patiently waiting for someone to get it right. During this era two gifted engineers/audiophiles, Morris Kessler and Ted Winchester, started experimenting with circuit designs, implementing methods and ideas that were distinctive and imaginative. After much research and a lot of trial and error a refreshingly different audio company was born, who produced refreshingly different components. The company was called Scientific Audio Electronics (SAE) and their influence on the course of solid state audio is undeniable. Throughout the 60s, 70s & 80s SAE was a major player in the high-end audio industry, introducing many legendary components that still seem to amaze audiophiles of this generation. Their success was largely due to a couple of key engineers who were hired-on as the company grew. Ed Miller and James Bongiorno complimented and improved the founding duos component designs and further excelled solid-state circuitry to new heights. The SAE P102 was introduced in 1985 with a production run until 1991. It is really a well-designed preamplifier that packs tremendous versatility and, above all, extraordinary sonic performance. The P102 is equipped with a Rockwell microprocessor for its Direct-Line Audio Circuitry, which effectively de-couples all front panel controls from all audio information. This allows for a purer signal path which equates to a purer sound quality. Its clean, quite performance makes it worthy enough to anchor any quality stereo system. The SAE P102 can handle both modern and vintage source components. With an excellent phono section to accommodate both MM & MC cartridges. Its built-in Complementary Phono Power Amp section is particularly esteemed for its ability to accurately reproduce the RIAA equalization curve with minimal transient intermodulation distortion. Other features and functions of the P102 include: Two Main Outputs Dual outputs can be connected to 2 different amps & speaker sets simultaneously Standby Mode The P102 can control the on & off function of other "02 series " products with the STANDBY OUT jack. Connect an audio cable between this jack and other "02" products with a standby input jack. When so connected, switching the PI02 to standby will cause the other product or products to switch to standby also (their standby LED will not light, indicating remote standby control).
